In the quiet countryside town of Mifuse, time has stopped moving. After an explosion at the steel mill, the residents discover they’re stuck in a strange, unchanging state-isolated from the outside world. As the town’s influential figures claim this is divine punishment, superstitions spread, and the people cling to rituals to maintain their fragile, frozen existence until things return to normal. For middle schooler Masamune Kikuiri and the other youth of Mifuse, the idea of escaping this timeless prison feels impossible. Their emotions have dulled, and years have passed without them aging. Masamune has grown used to his doubts and hollow life-until his classmate Mutsumi Sagami leads him to the steel mill’s fifth furnace. There, they find a wild, wolf-like girl. Meeting her sparks a shift, piercing through the shadows that have defined Mifuse’s stagnant world.
