Giovanni's Island

Even in the midst of World War II, the small island north of Hokkaido where brothers Junpei and Kanta Senou live remains peaceful, almost untouched by the conflict. They pass their days collecting eggs and pretending to be Giovanni and Campanella, the protagonists of their favorite book, "Night on the Galactic Railroad." When the war ends, Soviet forces arrive to occupy the island. As tensions rise and their world grows uncertain, the brothers forge an unexpected friendship with Tanya, the daughter of a Soviet officer. But no matter how strong their bond becomes, they may never reclaim the simple, carefree days of their past.
