Les Misérables: Little Girl Cosette
Life as a single mother in early 19th-century France is far from easy. Cosette and her mother wander from place to place, searching for work and shelter, but most employers turn them away, unwilling to hire a woman on her own. When an opportunity arises in the city, promising better prospects, Cosette’s mother leaves her with a caretaker, hoping the arrangement will give her the chance to earn enough to support them both. But instead, the two are torn apart.
