House of Flames
Many years ago, a young woman named Unai-Otome lived in the village of Ikuta. Her beauty drew two suitors, both deeply in love with her, but she couldn’t decide between them. Overwhelmed, she chose a third path-ending her own life. Yet even in death, she found no peace. Decades later, a pilgrim passing her grave encounters a beautiful young woman, and her tragic tale resurfaces. Inspired by a classic Noh play, the film reflects Kawamoto’s skill in capturing the absurdity of human existence.
