A Jewish Girl in Shanghai
The story takes place mostly in and around the Shanghai Ghetto during World War II, under Japanese occupation. It follows three children: Rina and her little brother Mishalli, Jewish refugees who fled Europe but lost their parents, and A-Gen, a local Chinese boy who befriends them and helps them survive. As they form a close bond, the children navigate life in the occupied city, facing dangers from both the Japanese forces and their Nazi allies. Meanwhile, the Second Sino-Japanese War rages around them, and Rina and Mishalli grapple with the unknown fate of their parents back in Europe.
