After realizing Earth-or Terra-was too polluted to save, humanity's governments united under an authoritarian system called Superior Domination (SD) and turned to space colonization. Centuries later, people have surrendered their freedom to the AI Grand Mother; at age 14, everyone's memories are erased, and they are assigned a predetermined role in society. Jomy Marquis Shin, a gentle boy raised by caring parents, avoids this fate when Soldier Blue-leader of the Mu, a new species of psychically gifted humans-rescues him. To SD, people like Jomy are a threat to their rigid order. Pursued by government forces, Jomy finds refuge among the Mu, who live in hiding aboard the spaceship Shangri-La.
