Shine On! Bakumatsu Bad Boys! - S01

After a brutal assault by the imperialist gang called the Masked Demons, the Shinsengumi's Eighth Division-Kyoto's shogunate-loyal law enforcement unit-is almost wiped out, leaving only Heisuke Toudou alive, though severely wounded. Pressured by feudal lord Katamori Matsudaira to restore the Shinsengumi, Toudou offers eight convicts a chance at redemption: they must forsake their past identities and take the place of the eight fallen Shinsengumi captains. All but one agree, and the lone dissenter is swiftly executed by the ex-assassin Sakuya. Yet, Toudou struggles to mold the seven reformed criminals into disciplined warriors. Among them, the reckless and vengeful Ichibanboshi, whose family was killed by the Masked Demons, jeopardizes Toudou's plan with his lack of restraint. As Toudou vows to defend the shogunate from imperialists and foreign threats, rival factions like Kogorou Katsura's group begin advancing their own schemes, aiming to seize control as the Edo period nears its end.
