Some time ago, the powerful corporation Toue Inc. purchased Japan's Midorijima Island to construct Platinum Jail-a high-end paradise for the world's wealthiest elite. The island's original inhabitants were pushed out to the Old Residential District and left with nothing after Platinum Jail's completion. The island revolves around two games: "Rib" and "Rhyme." Rib is a traditional turf war fought between gangs, while Rhyme is a high-tech virtual reality battle. To play Rhyme, you need an "All-Mate"-an AI companion resembling a pet-and an "Usui" to oversee the match. Aoba Seragaki wants nothing to do with either game. He lives quietly with his grandmother and his All-Mate, Ren. But when he's forced into a dangerous Rhyme match and hears whispers of vanishing Rib players, his hopes for a normal life shatter completely.
