Ten years ago, Nagomu Irino left home chasing a dream that didn’t work out. Now, after hearing his father-the owner of Kyoto’s traditional sweets shop, Ryokushou-has been hospitalized, he returns, fearing the shop will have no heir if his father passes. Ready to take on the family legacy, Nagomu prepares to learn the craft of making sweets. To his surprise, he finds his father has already chosen a successor-10-year-old Itsuka Yukihira, a girl abandoned at Ryokushou by her father for unknown reasons. Though she’s become part of the family and the shop’s beloved face, Itsuka still yearns to find her father, chasing every faint lead. Sympathizing with her loneliness, Nagomu’s mother asks him to pretend to be Itsuka’s father, hoping it might ease her pain, even slightly. At first, they clash, but as time passes, Itsuka and Nagomu slowly understand each other, discovering unexpected similarities. Bonding over their shared love for Ryokushou and its sweets, their makeshift father-daughter relationship starts to bring a little more sweetness into the lives of those around them.
