High school student Ritsu Shikishima enjoys contemplating deep questions, especially about happiness, as he spends quiet days with his friends. But his peaceful world shatters when he hears a strange, staticky voice begging for help. The voice belongs to μ, a famous pop idol whose singing starts warping reality. Soon, Ritsu watches in horror as glitches twist the faces of his friends and family, and μ's voice turns them into Digiheads-violent monsters hellbent on destroying anyone who becomes aware of their false reality. Ritsu discovers he's trapped inside Mobius, a virtual world created by μ. Now, he must rally others who have uncovered the truth before they're all erased. Armed with powers fueled by their emotions-the Catharsis Effect-they battle against a shadowy group called The Ostinato Musicians in a desperate fight for freedom.
