Arata: The Legend - S01

Arata, a young noble from Amawakuni, has lived his life with confidence-until news arrives that the princess is growing frail. Unaware that his grandmother had registered him as female at birth, he suddenly becomes the next heir to the throne in the matriarchal Hime clan. Forced to pose as a woman while awaiting a proper successor, Arata witnesses the princess's guard, the 12 Shinsho, attempt to assassinate her. Framed for the crime, he flees into the Kando forest, a place rumored to change all who enter. At the same time, in modern Japan, Arata Hinohara struggles under the torment of his classmates. Drawn by a voice from an alley, he strays from his path and accidentally swaps places with Arata from Amawakuni. Awakening as a "Sho"-a warrior who can wield the divine weapons known as Hayagami-Hinohara sets out on a journey with newfound allies to bring balance to this unfamiliar world.
