Akira

Japan, 1988. A psychic explosion triggered by a young boy devastates Tokyo and sparks the chain of events leading to World War III. To stop further catastrophe, he is taken away and disappears from history. By 2019, the rebuilt city of Neo-Tokyo stands in its place-a chaotic hub of gang warfare and anti-government unrest. Here, Shoutarou Kaneda leads "the Capsules," a reckless gang of motorcycle-riding outsiders locked in a never-ending feud with their rivals, "the Clowns." During one of their clashes, Shoutarou's closest friend, Tetsuo Shima, crashes into an escaped esper who had been imprisoned by the government. The encounter awakens strange, uncontrollable powers in Tetsuo. As his abilities grow, the authorities scramble to contain him, fearing he could repeat the same cataclysmic destruction that once shattered Tokyo.
