In 2035, an event called "The Burst" takes place at a Japanese research facility, unleashing a fast-growing, consuming, and self-replicating substance known as "Matter." Spreading through the wreckage of dams and military sites in the Kurobe Gorge, the hostile Matter draws the attention of task forces trying to stop it from reaching the ocean, as well as mercenaries searching for the truth behind its origins. Aiko Tachibana, rescued from the Matter, lives under constant medical watch. To pass the time during her recovery, she folds paper planes. Her quiet routine at school is disrupted when transfer student Yuuya Kanzaki arrives and starts questioning oddities about her condition-why she never gets hurt and no longer needs her wheelchair. He insists there’s more to her than she’s been told and that she alone may hold the answer to stopping The Burst. Now pursued by multiple factions, Aiko and Yuuya must find allies and journey into the heart of the infested gorge before they’re caught in a tightening net. To survive the conspiracy closing in, they’ll have to confront the Matter-an enemy as fluid and relentless as water.
