After finishing high school, Natsuko Hirose becomes an animator, where her skills quickly shine. She soon steps into the role of director, and her first anime becomes a huge success, turning into a cultural sensation and marking her as a rising talent. Her next project is a romantic comedy film about first love, but there’s a problem-she’s never experienced love herself. Stumped by the concept, she can’t complete the storyboard, bringing the movie’s production to a halt. One day, while struggling with her work, she collapses and wakes up inside the world of her beloved childhood anime, "A Tale of Perishing."
