Space Battleship Yamato

"Space Battleship Yamato" is a classic Japanese sci-fi anime centered around a spaceship of the same name. In English-speaking regions, it was released as "Space Cruiser Yamato," and a heavily edited English dub called "Star Blazers" aired in North America and Australia. The first two seasons of this version also aired in Greece in 1981-82 under the title "Διαστημόπλοιο Αργώ." An Italian adaptation kept the "Star Blazers" name, while in Brazil, it was known as "Patrulha Estelar." In Spain and Latin America, it went by "Viaje a la Ultima Galaxia" or "Astronave Intrepido." The series is a landmark in anime history, shifting the medium toward more mature and intricate storytelling. It heavily influenced later works like "Mobile Suit Gundam" and "Neon Genesis Evangelion." Director Hideaki Anno has named "Yamato" his favorite anime, citing it as the reason he became passionate about the medium. It was also the first anime to win the prestigious Seiun Award, a distinction no other anime achieved until "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" in 1985.
