Science Ninja Team Gatchaman

"Science Ninja Team Gatchaman" is a Japanese anime about a five-member superhero team, originally created by Tatsuo Yoshida and produced by Tatsunoko Productions in 1972. The series, called "Kagaku Ninja Tai Gatchaman" in Japan, is best known in English as "Battle of the Planets." Other English adaptations include "G-Force: Guardians of Space" and a 2005 uncut version by ADV Films. Tatsunoko also refers to it as "Science Commando Gatchaman" in official translations. The English versions differ significantly from the original and from each other, which can confuse viewers revisiting the series after years. After the 1972 series, the franchise continued with an animated film and two sequels, "Gatchaman II" and "Gatchaman Fighter." In the 1990s, parts of these sequels were dubbed by Saban as "Eagle Riders." A remade OVA version of the original series was released in 1994.
