Nezha Conquers the Dragon King
This film adapts a tale from Chinese mythology, specifically the epic fantasy novel "Fengshen Bang," focusing on the warrior deity Nezha. After a pregnancy lasting three and a half years, Lady Yin, wife of General Li Jing, gives birth to a flesh ball that transforms into a lotus flower, revealing Nezha. Born already able to walk and speak, Nezha becomes the student of the immortal Taiyi Zhenren. The Dragon Kings of the Four Seas, having grown weary of peace, turn cruel and destructive, unleashing storms and drought across China. When the people beg for rain, the East Sea Dragon King Ao Guang refuses, ordering the yaksha Ye Sha to capture children for him to eat. Ye Sha seizes one of Nezha's friends while they bathe in the ocean, prompting Nezha to intervene and severely injure him. Enraged, Ao Guang sends his third son, Ao Bing, who is killed by Nezha in the ensuing fight. Conflict escalates between Nezha and Ao Guang as the Dragon Kings unleash floods, storms, and other disasters. Witnessing the suffering, Nezha takes his father's sword, declares he is returning his parents' flesh and blood to them, and calls for his master before taking his own life. With Taiyi Zhenren's help, Nezha is reborn from a lotus blossom, gaining new weapons and powers. He storms Ao Guang's underwater palace, facing the Dragon Kings once more, and ultimately prevails.
