NAMUAMIDABUTSU! -UTENA-
The unavoidable suffering of life-birth, aging, sickness, and death-can only be overcome through Buddhist enlightenment. Long ago, after a great war, a prince attained enlightenment and became Shaka Nyorai, bringing salvation to the world. But now, in this age of decline, Mara-the embodiment of doubt that once sought to corrupt Shaka’s enlightenment-has struck a deal with evil to seek vengeance. Using people’s fears and anxieties, Mara begins to manipulate them. In response, Shaka and his allies, the Thirteen Buddhas, along with the guardian deities Taishakuten and Bonten, rise to challenge Mara and shield humanity from despair. The struggle between Mara and the Buddhist gods has begun, drawing ordinary people into its wake.
