Modest Heroes

"Kaniini to Kaniino (Kanini & Kanino)" The quiet rustle of fairy wings fills the air near a forest stream, home to small, human-like freshwater crabs. Siblings Kanini and Kanino live peacefully with their father while their mother is away above the surface to give birth. But when a violent storm sweeps their father downstream, the two set out alone to find him. Their journey is far from safe-every rock could hide a hungry piranha waiting to strike. "Samurai Egg (Life Ain't Gonna Lose)" Shun, a boy confined to a hospital room, suffers from a severe egg allergy that brings him pain at even the slightest taste. As a child, he is reckless, and his condition frustrates both him and his mother, who struggles to keep him alive amid countless close calls. Over time, Shun learns to endure and navigate a world filled with the very thing that threatens him. "Toumei Ningen (Invisible)" An invisible man begins another ordinary day-dressing himself and strapping a fire extinguisher to his body to keep from floating away. Though he moves through the physical world, no one truly sees him. That changes when, during a raging storm, he encounters a blind person whose kindness might finally give meaning to his lonely existence.
