Humanity and the world of demons (youkai) exist side by side, though unseen by most. Humans go about their lives unaware, while demons walk the same streets hidden from view. Yurine, a woman who appears young but is far older, and her servant, the Karas (meaning "Crow" in Japanese),have long kept the balance between these worlds, preventing demons from interfering with human lives. But over time, humans have grown dismissive of demons, mocking their existence and forgetting the privilege of living without fear. Disgusted by this arrogance, an elder Karas named Eko abandons his duty and, taking human form, builds an army of mechanized demons called Mikura to wage war on humanity. A young man named Otoha inherits the power of the Karas and joins Yurine, who says his soul called out to her while he lived as a human. Now dwelling in the demon world, Otoha must prove himself as a Karas and stop Eko from destroying the fragile balance. Elsewhere, a superstitious detective named Sagisaka and his skeptical new partner, Kure, investigate the murders committed by Eko’s Mikura, as well as the trail of a rogue Mikura named Nue. As events unfold, the city faces a grim prophecy that will change everything.
