Fusé: Memoirs of a Huntress
After her grandfather's passing, Hamaji Ooyama lives alone on a remote mountain, surviving by hunting and tending to her own needs. One day, her brother-a samurai hopeful in Edo-sends her a letter urging her to leave her solitude and join him in the city. But when she arrives, she finds a grim display: the severed heads of six dogs. These belong to the Fuse, eight half-human, half-dog creatures who have been terrorizing Edo. After helping a mysterious man escape attackers, Hamaji reaches her brother's home, where he asks her to aid him in hunting down the last two Fuse and claiming the Shogunate's bounty. The task won't be easy-the Fuse can hide among humans nearly undetected-and the very man Hamaji rescued bears the unmistakable signs of being one.
