Chuuta Kokonose, an orphan living with his aunt, has always heard a mysterious voice in his head. Otherwise, his life seems ordinary-until a bizarre creature follows him home and suddenly transports him to a world teeming with fantastical beings. He finds himself at a space police station, where Rein Brickke, the Chief of the Solar System Department, informs him that a computer has selected him as a potential recruit. Misuzu Sonokata, a classmate of Chuuta's with a beautiful face and a sharp temper, turns out to be one of Rein's subordinates. She doubts Chuuta has what it takes for the job. Though initially stunned, Chuuta resolves to take the aptitude test, both because the voice in his head urges him to and to prove Misuzu wrong.
