Beyond the Heavens
"Sōten Kōro" is a Japanese manga created by artist King Gonta, based on an original story by Hagin Yi. It ran in Kodansha's Weekly Morning magazine from 1994 to 2005. After Hagin Yi passed away from cancer in September 1998, King Gonta took over the writing. The series spanned 409 chapters, later collected into 36 volumes. In 1998, it won the 22nd Kodansha Manga Award in the general category. No official English translation of the manga exists, but a 2007 color art book used "Beyond the Heavens" as its English subtitle, implying this is the accepted title translation. The final chapter also shares this English title. In Japan, the publisher marketed the series as "Neo-Sangokushi," meaning "Neo Romance of the Three Kingdoms." In April 2009, Madhouse adapted the manga into an anime series.
